Office Technician

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under limited direction, to perform a wide variety of specialized and technical tasks and execute complex and responsible clerical work of more than average difficulty, including high level, complex, sophisticated desktop publishing; and to do related work as required, consistent with the job description.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Directly responsible to designated administrators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs a wide variety of complex work utilizing any one of several computer programs, including high level, complex, sophisticated desktop publishing and preparation of materials for print
  • Compiles and records information for preparing reports, computing statistical data, and maintaining file systems
  • Provides information and assistance to district personnel and/or the general public regarding services provided by the district or schools
  • Receives office visitors in person or over the telephone
  • Composes letters or memos independently or from oral instructions
  • Operates various computer terminals
  • Utilizes specialized computer programs and word processing programs
  • Operates a typewriter, copier, and various other equipment
  • Assigns and reviews work of student helpers
  • Instructs other clerical personnel in the use of specialized computer programs
  • Performs responsible and difficult clerical work with accuracy and speed
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Understand and carries out oral and written directions
  • Makes arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy
  • Compiles and maintains accurate and complete records and reports.

  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Operation of a computer and assigned software.
  • Terminology, processes and operations of assigned office or program.
  • Record-keeping and filing techniques. Telephone techniques and etiquette.
  • Basic research methods and report preparation techniques.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic budgeting practices regarding monitoring and control.
  • Basic math.
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Type at a rate of thirty-five (35) words per minute; pass qualifying tests.
