Director, RTTT Grant

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Superintendent to provide leadership and coordination of the Race to the Top grant for The New Haven Unified School District. The position will work directly with school district leadership and staff, as well as ACOE and USDOE staff; assure and monitor compliance with state and federal requirements for the RTTT grant; and provide overall assistance, coordination and direction to the NHUSD administrators assigned to perform grant-related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to supervise and coordinate efforts of employees to reach goals and outcomes of the United States Department of Education (USDOE) and Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) Race to the Top grant programs.
  • Ability to coordinate RTTT program activities with other district priorities and delegate work assignments.
  • Ability to monitor budgets and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

  • An additional requirement of the job is to be able to travel both in and out of state at least 25-50% of the time for federal meetings, workshops/conferences, and site-related monitoring and reviews.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manifests a professional code of ethics and values.
  • Models the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization and management tasks.
  • Provide a professional and collaborative work relationship and leadership oversight among schools, area and district offices in the performance of RTTT projects and completion of deliverables.
  • Assist in building district capacity to make the transition to enhanced standards and high quality assessments, to develop and improve access to data systems to support instruction, to improve teacher and principal effectiveness and the equitable distribution of effective teachers and leaders, and to transform the lowest achieving schools to high-achieving schools.
  • Provide overall coordination, progress monitoring, and guidance to all the RTTT project directors within the district.
  • Keep abreast of state and federal educational legislation, mandates, policies and procedures.
  • Provides frequent and ongoing communication to district staff and the Board of Education regarding RTTT grant progress and updates.
  • Continually analyze performance data associated with all grant projects and deliverables.
  • Prepare detailed formative and summative reports on the status of RTTT for submission to USDOE and ACOE.
  • Work with community-based organizations and local governmental agencies to coordinate efforts and provide appropriate services to district schools.
  • Execute assignments, projects, and reporting in a timely and professional manner.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology being used by USDOE and ACOE.
  • With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to all NHUSD Personnel guidelines, executive limitations and the district’s instructional initiatives.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.
  • Develop leadership in subordinates.
  • With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.
  • Responsible for self development and keeping up to date on current research, trends and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

  • Machines, tools, equipment, electronic devices, vehicles, telephone, computer, (personal computer and mainframe), automobile, copier, etc., used in this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Conditions the worker will be subject to in this position
  • Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification in education leadership and/or administration and supervision.
  • Five (5) years of education leadership, management, and supervision.
  • Master’s degree and/or earned doctorate from an accredited institution desirable.
  • Demonstrated success working with and through people in establishing goals, objectives, and action plans to produce expected goals.

COMPENSATION/WORK YEAR:

  • Mgt. Salary Range 53/1-5
  • 225 day work year
