ABA Applied Behavior Analysis (Severely Handicapped/Profoundly Handicapped)

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To perform, under supervision, a variety of instructional tasks and related services, utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, for students with severe to profound physical, emotional, behavioral, and educational problems within 1:1, group and classroom settings.

Directly responsible to designated administrators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Delivers individualized ABA based instruction, created and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, to students from all disability categories, including those with severe disabilities and/or emotional/behavioral disabilities. Educational activities may include providing 1:1 instruction, group instruction or behavioral support within the natural school environments, utilizing the methods of discrete trial training, pivotal response training, verbal behavior analysis, natural environment teaching and/or other ABA based methodologies. In addition, educational activities may include facilitating the development of academic, perceptual and psychomotor, social/behavioral, self-help, pre-vocational and vocational, adaptive, and speech/language skills. Other activities include the collection and maintenance of progress data at a rate and method determined by the BCBA. ABA based services may include the implementation of specific behavior management procedures, accompanying students on field trips and community outings, and hygienic assistance and care, including activities related to toileting and eating. Employee may perform specialized physical health care services, e.g. tube feeding, catherization, tracheotomy suctioning and administering medication, when indicated in accordance with provisions in the Education Code. Duties may involve strenuous physical activities such as lifting students from wheel chairs.
Training in ABA will be provided in individual and group training sessions through the use of direct observation of service delivery, training in theory, methodology and practice of ABA based systems, and through the use of regular skills assessment and feedback. Training may be provided, as appropriate, in other specialized services (e.g. crisis prevention/physical management, ProAct, occupational/physical therapy, inclusion/main streaming, etc.) and employee will carry out such services under supervision of a credentialed staff member or BCBA. Clerical duties may include filing and duplicating materials, maintaining students’ records, maintenance and updating of ABA program data, and operating audio-visual and computer equipment. Other duties may be assigned based on student and program needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Basic medical information relating to disabilities and a variety of special needs of school age students.
Operation of a computer and assigned software.
Techniques for dealing with students with various physical, learning and/or emotional disabilities
Record keeping practices.

Ability to:

Assisting students in performing tasks and helping them to achieve curriculum expectations.
Working efficiently, positively, patiently and unemotionally; displaying mature self-control with handicapped students with a variety of disabilities.
Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding program participants.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and administration.
Communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
Using sound independent judgment within general procedural guidelines.
Maintaining accurate records as needed.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Must pass qualifying test.

Classroom Assistant IV – Intensive Counseling Enriched A. PRIMARY FUNCTION To perform, under supervision, a variety of instructional tasks and related services for students with severe to profound emotional and behavioral difficulties that have been placed in a classroom for students with behavioral challenges, an approved Community Day program or an approved Day Treatment program. B. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Directly responsible to designated administrators. C. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assists in the instruction and training of students with from all disability categories, including those with severe disabilities and/or emotional/behavioral disabilities. Educational activities may include facilitating the development of academic, perceptual and psychomotor, social/behavioral, self-help, provocational and vocational, adaptive, and speech/language skills. Other activities include the delivery of related services such as behavior management, accompanying students on field trips and community outings, and hygienic assistance and care, including activities related to toileting and eating. Supervision of students may be conducted inside and outside the classroom. Employee may perform specialized physical health care services, e.g. tube feeding, catherization, tracheotomy suctioning and administering medication, when indicated in accordance with provisions in the Education Code. Duties may involve strenuous activities such as physical restraint as allowed by law. Training will be provided, as appropriate, in all specialized services including crisis prevention/physical management, behavior management, CPR, discreet trial, occupational/physical therapy, seizure disorders and maintenance, inclusion/main streaming, CPI and/or ProAC and staff will carry out such services under supervision of a credentialed staff member. Clerical duties may include filing and duplicating materials, maintaining student’s records, computes and records data, and operates audio-visual and computer equipment.
