Dear NHUSD Families,
Thank you for all of your patience and support as we navigate our way through this challenging period of time. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has been trying to adjust school guidance based on the latest information they have on the Omicron variant, which has resulted in multiple changes in this guidance over the past two weeks. I know that this has generated some confusion and frustration for families that have had to isolate or quarantine.
Moving forward, we will be adopting the latest changes recommended by the CDPH relating to contact tracing. They are now recommending “group tracing,” which they believe is more effective with the Omicron variant. In brief, this will result in more students receiving exposure notices but fewer students being required to quarantine. We, like other districts such as Newark and Fremont, will transition to this process next week. We will send out more detailed information about this process very soon. You can view the guidance issued by the CDPH here. The Alameda County Office of Education has updated its school guidance document and that document can be found here.
Last week at this time, it appeared that our positive test data was trending downward however that ended up not being the case. I am hesitant to state anything definitive about this week’s data until it is reconciled on Saturday. On Thursday, the Alameda County Public Health Department shared that we are “seeing signs” that case rates have peaked and there is optimism that the worst of the Omicron surge is behind us. I can say with certainty that the number of uncovered classes this week is about half of what it has been over the past two weeks – so that is really good news. Hopefully, our test positivity data reflects this trend too.
Our New Haven Scholarship Foundation is hosting its annual gala, Diamonds in Education, this Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. You can learn more about the gala and some of the great auction items here: Diamonds in Education. Since it is a virtual event, you can participate and still watch the 49er game! Every dollar raised by this event goes directly back to our students, teachers, and classrooms.

Gracias por toda su paciencia y apoyo mientras navegamos por este periodo de tiempo difícil. El Departamento de Salud Pública de California (CDPH) ha estado tratando de modificar la guía escolar basándose en la última información que tienen sobre la variante Omicron, lo que ha dado lugar a múltiples cambios durante las últimas dos semanas. Sé que esto ha generado cierta confusión y frustración para las familias que han tenido que aislarse o ponerse en cuarentena.
En el futuro, adoptaremos los últimos cambios recomendados por CDPH en relación con el rastreo de contactos. En resumen, esto hará que más estudiantes reciban avisos de exposición, pero que menos estudiantes deban estar en cuarentena.
