A Message From Superintendent Thompson (Spanish translation included)

Hello Everyone,

As week two of our school year comes to a close, I want to thank all of you for your patience and support in helping our schools open smoothly. Our transition to our new student information system, Aeries, was not as smooth as we would have liked, especially at the high school level where we encountered unanticipated scheduling issues. Our staff is working hard to resolve all of the issues we have encountered during this transition. When fully implemented, Aeries should make it easier for all of you to access key information related to your students such as grades and attendance. Thank you again for your patience.

As you know, we are in the third and final year of our current strategic plan and next week we will kick off one of our goal-related initiatives: we will launch our Anti-Hate Speech campaign to help “ensure inclusive and equitable conditions” for all of our students, which is related to Goal 2: Equity, Access, and Achievement.

The purpose of this campaign is to teach students about the harmful effects of hate speech and hate-related conduct, as well as to give them tools to help them know what to do if they encounter it. We also want to send a clear message to our students and community that we have no tolerance for any hate-related behavior; our students deserve to come to school in a place that values and embraces our differences, and we hope that this campaign will help keep our schools this way. Our school board adopted a resolution on Tuesday evening supporting this campaign that can be found by clicking here.

Starting next week, we are asking our students to take a pledge to eliminate hate. This will be followed up with activities that will take place throughout the year to support this initiative.

That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend!

John Thompson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

John Thompson, Ed.D.
