Hello Everyone,
Shortly after I sent out my Friday Update last week stating that our region was not going to be implementing a “Regional Stay Home Order” order, we learned that Alameda County, as well as other local counties, decided to implement this order. This is yet another example of how quickly things can change. The good news for us is that this order was designed so that schools would not be impacted. Since we are considered an “essential business” all of our offices are open and the activities that were allowed prior to the issuance of this order continue to be allowed.
In New Haven Unified, we continue to cautiously prepare to reopen schools. Given the local COVID-19 conditions, reopening will not happen anytime soon. In a conference call on Thursday, Dr. Moss (Alameda County Public Health Officer) shared that all metrics used to monitor COVID-19 in our county are at the highest levels they have been since the pandemic started.
We will bring our updated reopening plan for approval by our Board of Education at our meeting next Tuesday, December 15, but it will not include a specific reopening date. The only revision to the plan that was shared at our November board meeting is in the Phases of Reopening section, where there is further clarification about our use of “Learning Pods.” This plan will be available for review when our board agenda is made available on Friday afternoon.
Also at our board meeting on Tuesday, we will introduce our two new board members, Michael Gonzales and Melissa Shuen-Mallory, who will take their oaths of office and participate in their first board meeting. Mr. Gonzales will represent Trustee Area 3 and Ms. Shuen-Mallory will represent Trustee Area 2. Lance Nishihara, who was re-elected to represent Trustee Area 1, will also take his oath and begin his new term. While we won’t be meeting in person, anyone who wishes to attend the meeting can do so virtually by following the instructions found on our website.

Al poco tiempo después de que envié mi actualización, el viernes de la semana pasada, indicando que nuestra región no iba a implementar una orden de “Permanecer en casa / Toque de queda regional”, supimos que el condado de Alameda, así como otros condados locales, decidieron implementar esta orden. Este es otro ejemplo más de lo rápido que pueden cambiar las cosas. La buena noticia para nosotros es que esta orden fue diseñada para que las escuelas no se vieran afectadas. Dado que se nos considera un “negocio esencial”, todas nuestras oficinas están abiertas y las actividades que estaban permitidas antes de la emisión de esta orden continúan estando permitidas.
