Board Briefs for Tuesday, January 15, 2019

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Board was pleased to host the kindergarten Two-Way Dual Language Program class from Searles Elementary School.  These kindergarteners led those in attendance in both a Spanish and English rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance and gifted us with a song. Searles Elementary School Principal Raquel Bocage gave a brief presentation to the Board about the history of the program, the two-way dual language pathway, and the instructional foci of the program.  Ms. Bocage’s presentation can be found here.

The Board also heard a presentation from Mission Valley Regional Occupation Program (MVROP) Superintendent Thomas Hanson and Director of Educational Services Dr. Cliff Adams-Hart.  The two provided an update of programs offered through their Career Technical program for 2018-19. Currently, MVROP offers ROP classes on the Logan campus that include Computer Science Principles, Culinary Arts and Hospitality, and Medical and Health Careers.  On the Conley-Caraballo campus, students can enroll in such classes as Business and Professional Development and Culinary Arts. The MVROP Center Campus hosts an array of courses as well. To see the MVROP presentation, please click here.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, Chief Business Officer Annette Heldman introduced the auditor from Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Co., LLP, Brandon Waldren.   Mr. Waldren stated that the New Haven USD report presents fairly in all financial aspects for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2018. Additionally, the audit was clean and unmodified with no audit findings or material weakness identified with regards to District's business practices and internal controls, financial statements, Federal Awards and / or State Awards.  Mr. Waldren also commented that this year was the last annual audit for the Race To The Top Grant.
