Conley-Caraballo High School to Host Dia De Los Muertos Festival

On Friday, November 2, Conley-Caraballo High School will host a Dia De Los Muertos event from 5:30 to 8:30pm. There will be children’s activities, Aztec dancers, a community altar and Bay Bombs will be bringing their bikes and cars to display.  Please click here for more information.


Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School to Host Annual College Fair

The Eighth-Grade Project Based Learning students are throwing Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School’s annual College Fair.  Parents, friends, and community members are invited to learn about colleges through student created presentations and displays.

The event will be held on Thursday, October 11, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the IVCMS Gym.


James Logan HIgh School Hall of Fame Ceremony and Inductees

ReelAbilities Film Festival, October 4th
ReelAbilities Film Festival is the largest festival in the US dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different disabilities.

Community Meeting Regarding Proposed Affordable Housing on Monday, October 8

MidPen Housing, a local non-profit affordable housing organization, is proposing to develop affordable rental apartments on the City-owned vacant land located at Mission Boulevard, D Street, E Street, and 2nd Street and is in the early stages of the planning process.


As a part of the planning process, MidPen will be holding a community meeting on Monday, October 8th at James Logan High School’s Cafeteria from 6:30pm-8:30pm for community members to learn more about MidPen Housing and the proposed development. Please see enclosed a flyer with more details about the October 8 th community meeting. Refreshments will be provided and children are welcome.  Spanish and Mandarin translation services will be available.

Mission Valley SELPA CAC Presents Family Movie Night
The Mission Valley Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) is hosting a screening of Despicable Me 3 on Friday, October 12th at 7:00 p.m.  The outdoor event will be held at the O.N. Hirsch Elementary Grass located at 41399 Chapel Way, Fremont CA, 94538.  Admission is free it this event and popcorn and drinks will be served. Families are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and are welcome to bring a snack.

Parent supervision is required.

Science in the Park, Saturday, October 6, at the Alden E Oliver Sports Park

Science in the Park is a FREE family event that makes STEM and health compelling and accessible to children, families, and the general public. A benefit hosted by Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle and the Hayward Area Recreation & Park District, in support of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, Hayward Education Foundation, New Haven Schools Foundation, Newark Educational Foundation, and Fremont Education Foundation. This event includes interactive/hands on activities that promotes STEM, live animal demonstrations, health screenings, friendly competitions, Food Trucks and much more. The event will also include an egg drop challenge which is a long standing tradition. Science in the Park partners with the Alameda County Fire Department - their firefighters drop the eggs from the top of their 60 foot ladder! The Rules include the following: 1. Bring your own packaged egg 2. Egg must be raw 3. Packaging can be made from anything (eg. paper, plastic, cardboard etc.) 4. Eggs will not be returned unless you are present. 5. Each participant will receive a prize. 6. Limit ONE (1) egg per participant.

Mutt Strut is Coming!

Attention dog lovers! The New Haven Schools Foundation is once again presenting its super-popular “Mutt Strut” event on Saturday, October 6, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to bring the family to walk or run with your dog on the beautiful grounds of the Masonic Home in the Union City hills. There will be games, costume contests, and other pet-related vendors.   New this year is family-friendly and local performer, Dan Chan the Magician.  Individual and family tickets are on sale now at www.muttstrut.org and prices go up on September 22.  Guests receive an event t-shirt and a goody bag with lots of treats as well as a pancake breakfast, hosted by the Masonic Home.


IVCMS is in need of a boys volleyball coach

Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School is looking for a qualified person to help ensure their boys have another great season!  If you or someone you know is interested in coaching boys volleyball, please contact Sandor Verstrepen, Athletic Director at IVCMS at sverstrepen@nhusd.k12.ca.us.  The season is coming up soon, and lasts from October 8 through December 20. The stipend is approximately $1500-1600.

The American Association of University Women to Host Annual Mother/Daughter Math & Science Discovery Day
On Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, the The American Association of University Women, Fremont Branch will host their annual Mother/Daughter STEM Discovery Day,  a morning of fun and learning for 5th/6th Grade girls and their mothers. The event will be held at Hopkins Jr. High, 600 Driscoll Rd, Fremont, and is open to New Haven eligible families. For more information, please click here.


Next Round of Fatherhood Classes Scheduled

A new R3 Academy Fatherhood Class has been scheduled to take place at the Parent Resource Center HUB of Hayward Unified School District at 24823 Soto Rd. on 12 Tuesday evenings, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., starting November 6.  These classes took place on the IVCMS Campus last year and were a huge success for our Dads.

An Information Night will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Hayward HUB for interested dads to get a quick course overview.

Union City Family Center (formerly Kids' Zone)
The Union City Family Center (UCFC) operates a dynamic Family Center, located on the campus of the Barnard-White Middle School.  UCFC Family Liaisons, assigned to specific school sites, expand access to UCFC and partner resources for the community. Liaisons provide case management and resource linkages for displaced/low wage families/youth who receive needed support with shelter, transportation, emergency food, clothing, job training/job search (Highway to Work & Cypress Mandela), financial coaching/taxes (SparkPoint), affordable childcare (Kidango) applying for benefits, and our safe parking lots program for displaced families ~ all co-located at the Union City Family Center. UCFC partners with community volunteers and over 35 community agencies!

The Union City Family Center is now an Alameda County Food distribution site! Food will be distributed every Tuesday that school is in session from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm. UCFC is located at 725 Whipple Road, Union City, CA (on the Barnard-White Middle School campus). Volunteers are welcome!
