Cool Tools 2018
East Bay CUE is proud and excited to partner with New Haven Unified School District to present Cool Tools for Learning, Fall 2018: The event for K-12 educators who think, lead, and change education one student at a time. NHUSD teachers bring your laptop, tablet, or smart device for an inspiring one day conference of exploration and learning with leading educators and out-of-the-box thinkers! This year's event will be conveniently hosted at the New Haven Adult School.
Registration will be free for the first 50 NHUSD registrants. You'll receive breakfast, lunch, .4 units of District credit, and you'll walk away with mind-blowing tech integration ideas you can use in your classroom on Monday! Please click here to register.

Mutt Strut is Coming!
Attention dog lovers! The New Haven Schools Foundation is once again presenting its super-popular “Mutt Strut” event on Saturday, October 6. This is a great opportunity to bring the family to walk or run with your dog on the beautiful grounds of the Masonic Home in the Union City hills. There will be games, costume contests, and other pet-related vendors. New this year is family-friendly and local performer, Dan Chan the Magician. Individual and family tickets are on sale now at www.muttstrut.org and prices go up on September 22. Guests receive an event t-shirt and a goody bag with lots of treats.
ACRA Book Club; Mindful Classroom Design
The Alameda County Reading Association is proud to present their first Book Club of the 2018-19 school year, “Mindful Classroom Design”, by Bee Medders. “Mindful Classroom Design” is for teachers of all grade levels who want to create not only an inviting classroom where all students can thrive but also promote a teacher’s sense of well being by being mindful of their classroom design. The discussion will be held on Thursday, September 6, from 4:15 - 5:30 pm at Pioneer Elementary School. The cost of the event is $25 which includes an ACRA membership for the year. ICL Parent Meeting, Thursday, September 6!
Parents and families of students in Logan's Institute of Community Leaders (ICL) program are invited to our first parent meeting of the year! Please join us on Thursday, September 6th at 6:30 p.m. to learn about ICL, and our work with the Early Academic Outreach Program through UC Berkeley. We will meet in the Reference Room of the James Logan Library. The library is along 'H' St., roughly in the middle of campus. In this instructor-led course you’ll learn how to provide person-centered support for daily living activities to clients in their homes and/or residential care facilities. Ghebray Invitational Cross Country Event, Saturday, September 22
The Ghebray Invitational, hosted by the James Cross Country Team, will be held on Saturday September 22, at Quarry Lakes. There will races for all ages: an elementary race, a middle school race, high school races and open races. Any attendee in the New Haven Unified School District is able to participate for free.
This event is in honor Giliat and Yoesf Ghebray, the top to distance runners in the history of James Logan High School and Union City. Both went to Cal Berkeley, were All-Americans and semi-finalists at the Olympic Trials in the 5000 meters. Please click here for more information about this event.
Union City Family Center (formerly Kids' Zone)
The Union City Family Center (UCFC) operates a dynamic Family Center, located on the campus of the Barnard-White Middle School. UCFC Family Liaisons, assigned to specific school sites, expand access to UCFC and partner resources for the community. Liaisons provide case management and resource linkages for displaced/low wage families/youth who receive needed support with shelter, transportation, emergency food, clothing, job training/job search (Highway to Work & Cypress Mandela), financial coaching/taxes (SparkPoint), affordable childcare (Kidango) applying for benefits, and our safe parking lots program for displaced families ~ all co-located at the Union City Family Center. UCFC partners with community volunteers and over 35 community agencies!
The Union City Family Center (UCFC) is excited to announce that beginning on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 - we will officially be an Alameda County Food distribution site! Food will be distributed every Tuesday that school is in session from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm. UCFC is located at 725 Whipple Road, Union City, CA (on the Barnard-White Middle School campus). Volunteers are welcome!
