Logan Marketing & Management Academy Takes Gold Again
The Marketing & Management Academy, Juniors and Senior Classes, participated in the Annual San Francisco Bay Area Competition and Exhibition (SFBACE) at the Oakland Marriott Convention Center. M&M Academy was part of a group of over 1,000 business students from 60 high schools located in California, Chicago and Germany that were part of the two day event.

The following were the award winners at the event:

Following up M&M Academy great showing in the Oakland Competition, twelve of M&M Academy business students have been invited to participate in the  International Youth Summit in New York City later this month.

Superfest International Disabilities Film Festival

In honor of Autism Awareness Month and our effort to continue to build cultural humility in our schools and programs, the San Mateo County Office of Education, in partnership with the Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability, cordially invite you to the Superfest International Disabilities Film Festival on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at 6:30 p.m.  A captioner will be present to assist with live dialogue and sign language interpretation is available upon request (see RSVP form). Pathways to Success Luncheon Tickets On Sale Now
The New Haven Schools Foundation’s annual Scholarship Luncheon will be held on May 2, 2018 at the Paradise Ballrooms in Fremont. Doors open at 11:00 AM for student and sponsor photos at the selfie station. The keynote speaker will be Robyn Rodriguez, Ph.D. who is Professor of Asian American Studies at U.C. Davis, the author of several noteworthy books, and a member of the James Logan High School Class of 1991. The Art and Cheryl Kuhlmann Award, given to an exemplary scholarship sponsor, will be presented to the Migrant Parent Advisory Council. Students who receive scholarships will receive two complimentary admissions. The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $75 per person, and may be purchased online, at

James Logan to Host Summer Speech and Debate Academy
Increase confidence, hone research and performance skills and become more comfortable with speaking in public settings at Summer Speech and Debate Academy!
Open to students as young as (incoming) 7th graders, Summer Academy teaches students different techniques for speech and debate events. This year, Summer Academy is at Logan July 9-28. For more info, go to

Logan Princess Club Has Caps and Gowns to Loan Upcoming Graduates, Looking for More
The Logan Princess Club will be loaning graduation caps and gowns to seniors who are homeless or displaced, foster youth, or have severe financial need. They encourage anybody with an Achievers brand cap and gown sitting around to donate it for a student in need. They especially need black gowns this year. Tools for Change Workshop for Tri-City Parents and Caregivers of Adolescents

City of Union City Youth & Family Services in partnership with Fremont Youth & Family Services is offering a workshop for Tri-City Parents and Caregivers of Adolescents (ages 12-18).  Caregivers learn effective prevention and intervention techniques to help their teens grow into safe and competent adults. Class meets for 4 weeks Wednesday evenings beginning April 11, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Please click here for more information.

Adult School Open House Saturday April 28
Mark your calendars! New Haven Adult School 3rd Annual Open House is Saturday, April 28th, from 11am-2pm. This is a community event and is open to the public. New and prospective students will have the opportunity to meet the staff, tour the school, connect with our partner agencies, and register for Spring Quarter. Partners of NHAS will have tables set up in the Multi-Purpose Room with resources for the entire family. There will also be food, fun and games for children.

Introducing the Union City Family Center (formally Union City Kids' Zone (UCKZ)
We are excited to share important news regarding the evolution of our organization.  We are delighted to announce that our organization formally known as Union City Kids' Zone will now be known as the Union City Family Center (UCFC). UCFC operates a dynamic Family Center, located on the campus of the Barnard-White Middle School.  UCFC Family Liaisons, assigned to specific school sites, expand access to UCFC and partner resources for the community. Liaisons provide case management and resource linkages for displaced/low wage families/youth who receive needed support with shelter, transportation, emergency food, clothing, job training/job search (Highway to Work & Cypress Mandela), financial coaching/taxes (SparkPoint), affordable childcare (Kidango) applying for benefits, and our safe parking lots program for displaced families ~ all co-located at the Union City Family Center. UCFC partners with community volunteers and over 35 community agencies!

Harlem Wizards in Town to Take On Union City All-Stars for District Fundraiser

On April 23rd, the Harlem Wizards basketball team is taking on the Union City All-Stars (New Haven staff members, Mayor, Superintendent, UCPD, and Alameda County Fire).  This is a fundraising event at the James Logan Pavilion. It is a fun night for our community to come together and support students in our district. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.  More information about this fun event can be found here.  Funds raised will be used to support programs at Emanuele Elementary, Kitayama Elementary, Pioneer Elementary, Searles Elementary, Hillview Crest Elementary, Cesar Chavez Middle, and Itliong Vera-Cruz Middle.

NHSF Earth Day Celebration Features Crossfit Challenge
This year’s Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 21, will offer a professionally-timed 5K run for adults and children. CrossFit One World is joining the event adding an exciting new element to the program. CrossFit will lead two twenty-five minute fitness programs – one for adults and one for youth. Crossfit incorporates elements of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and track and field training techniques into workouts.  We’ll have science-focused activities, as well. This is a family event promoting fitness, good health, and great community spirit. The 5K run starts at Cesar Chavez Middle School and runs along the Alameda Creek Trail.
