The James Logan Forensics Team Invites You To Its Spring Showcase
James Logan Forensics is hosting a Speech & Debate Showcase on Friday, April 13 at 6:00pm in the JLHS Little Theater. This event is a community event to show family, friends, and community members what the team does. There will be a suggested donation of $10 for adults, $5 for students, but no purchase required to attend. The program will be middle-school friendly and current parents will be there to answer questions about the program and Summer Academy.
Logan girls Wrestling Team to Hold Chipotle Fundraiser on Friday, April 13
Show your team spirit by joining us for a fundraiser to support James Logan Girls Wrestling. Come in to the Chipotle at 30920 Dyer St in Union City on Friday, April 13th between 5:00pm and 9:00pm. Bring in this flyer, show it on your smartphone or tell the cashier you’re supporting the cause to make sure that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to James Logan Girls Wrestling. Logan Princess Club Has Caps and Gowns to Loan Upcoming Graduates, Looking for More
The Logan Princess Club will be loaning graduation caps and gowns to seniors who are homeless or displaced, foster youth, or have severe financial need. They encourage anybody with an Achievers brand cap and gown sitting around to donate it for a student in need. They especially need black gowns this year. Night of Guard, Dance, and Drum to be Held Tonight, Tuesday, March 27
The annual Night of Guard, Dance, and Drum will be Tuesday, March 27th at 7pm in the James Logan Pavilion. The dance and percussion programs for the New Haven Unified School District will be performing. Bring the family and friends to see how the talent and skills of our children is grown and developed. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Tools for Change Workshop for Tri-City Parents and Caregivers of Adolescents
City of Union City Youth & Family Services in partnership with Fremont Youth & Family Services is offering a workshop for Tri-City Parents and Caregivers of Adolescents (ages 12-18). Caregivers learn effective prevention and intervention techniques to help their teens grow into safe and competent adults. Class meets for 4 weeks Wednesday evenings beginning April 11, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Please click here for more information.
Harlem Wizards in Town to Take On Union City All-Stars for District Fundraiser
On April 23rd, the Harlem Wizards basketball team is taking on the Union City All-Stars (New Haven staff members, Mayor, Superintendent, UCPD, and Alameda County Fire). This is a fundraising event at the James Logan Pavilion. It is a fun night for our community to come together and support students in our district. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Funds raised will be used to support programs at Emanuele Elementary, Kitayama Elementary, Pioneer Elementary, Searles Elementary, Hillview Crest Elementary, Cesar Chavez Middle, and Itliong Vera-Cruz Middle.

Introducing the Union City Family Center (formally Union City Kids' Zone (UCKZ)
We are excited to share important news regarding the evolution of our organization. We are delighted to announce that our organization, formally known as Union City Kids' Zone, is now known as the Union City Family Center (UCFC). UCFC operates a dynamic Family Center, located on the former Barnard-White Middle School campus. UCFC Family Liaisons, assigned to specific school sites, expand access to UCFC and partner resources for the community. Liaisons provide case management and resource linkages for displaced/low wage families/youth who receive needed support with shelter, transportation, emergency food, clothing, job training/job search (Highway to Work & Cypress Mandela), financial coaching/taxes (SparkPoint), affordable childcare (Kidango) applying for benefits, and our safe parking lots program for displaced families ~ all co-located at the Union City Family Center. UCFC partners with community volunteers and over 35 community agencies!

NHSF Grant Application Period is Open
Every year, the New Haven Schools Foundation awards grants to teachers, advisors, program managers, and coaches. Grant applications may be submitted between March 1 and March 30, 2018. There are four grant programs open this year: a) Innovations in Education – Classroom grants for teachers. B) Project: Enrichment – Funding for co-curricular or extra-curricular programs. C) STEM – Funding for innovative projects in science, technology, engineering, and math. D) Brian Kelly Tutoring Fund – Support for tutoring programs in the New Haven Unified School District.
You can’t win a grant if you don’t apply! Grants are submit to budget limitations, and may be used for supplies, equipment, books, software, fees and other similar items. Simply complete the online form for consideration. Use a computer, not a mobile device. We recommend using the Chrome browser for best results. You will receive an email notification confirming that your application was submitted successfully.
NHSF Earth Day Celebration Features Crossfit Challenge
This year’s Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 21, will offer a professionally-timed 5K run for adults and children. CrossFit One World is joining the event adding an exciting new element to the program. CrossFit will lead two twenty-five minute fitness programs – one for adults and one for youth. Crossfit incorporates elements of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and track and field training techniques into workouts. We’ll have science-focused activities, as well. This is a family event promoting fitness, good health, and great community spirit. The 5K run starts at Cesar Chavez Middle School and runs along the Alameda Creek Trail. There will be vendor and community booths, music, and fun. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Watch for more details! Registration is available here.
