Logan Family Center to Host Spanish Parent Workshop on Bullying and Cyber-Bullying

On Thursday, March 15, staff at the Logan Family Center will host a parent workshop (in Spanish) regarding bullying and cyber-bullying.  The workshop will focus on understanding bullying, how to recognize it, and how to prevent it. Cyber-bullying, a type of bullying behavior will be explored more in detail  The workshop will be held at the James Logan High School Student Library, is FREE, and NO registration is needed! Tools for Change Workshop for Tri-City Parents and Caregivers of Adolescents

City of Union City Youth & Family Services in partnership with Fremont Youth & Family Services is offering a workshop for Tri-City Parents and Caregivers of Adolescents (ages 12-18).  Caregivers learn effective prevention and intervention techniques to help their teens grow into safe and competent adults. Class meets for 4 weeks Wednesday evenings beginning April 11, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Please click here for more information.


WGI Color Guard Regional to Be Held Next Weekend at Logan
James Logan High School will host the 2018 Union City WGI Color Guard Contest this weekend.  Preliminaries start on Saturday, March 17 with finals on Sunday, March 18. Please click here for more information.

Twenty Staff Members Certified in CPR at Alvarado Elementary

Nineteen staff members from AES and one from CCMS participated in CPR certification classes conducted by District Nurse Cecila Vitug at Alvarado Elementary School.  Two three-hour sessions were held. Those who participated volunteered their time and efforts for CPR certification. Ms Vitug volunteered her time to teach the two classes.  Twenty New Haven Staff members are now certified to perform CPR. Thanks Cecila!

Harlem Wizards in Town to Take On Union City All-Stars for District Fundraiser

On April 23rd, the Harlem Wizards basketball team is taking on the Union City All-Stars (New Haven staff members, Mayor, Superintendent, UCPD, and Alameda County Fire).  This is a fundraising event at the James Logan Pavilion. It is a fun night for our community to come together and support students in our district. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.  More information about this fun event can be found here.  Funds raised will be used to support programs at Emanuele Elementary, Kitayama Elementary, Pioneer Elementary, Searles Elementary, Hillview Crest Elementary, Cesar Chavez Middle, and Itliong Vera-Cruz Middle.


Local Organization to Donate 1,000 Prom Dresses to Bay Area Juniors and Seniors

Prom Season is just around the corner and just like she did last year, Lesley West of the Golden State Warriors is helping girls have a night to remember by giving away 1000 dresses to Bay Area juniors and seniors.


To register for the free prom dresses giveaway for high school juniors and seniors March 18, click here!

The cutoff time for registration is 3 p.m. March 15.  The dresses are being offered only to high school juniors and seniors, who must show some form of ID or a report card proving they are a junior or senior.


2018 Alameda County Transition Information Faire - March 24, 2018
The Transition Faire is an opportunity for students and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, service providers and school district staff to learn about life after high school. Union City Family Center's Open House Celebration - Saturday, May 19, 2018
The Union City Family Center Community and Service Partners invite you to its Open House Celebration.  Come learn more about the Union City Family Center & Partner services, while enjoying food, fun, activities, music, and more on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Barnard-White Middle School (725 Whipple Road, Union City, CA).


Introducing the Union City Family Center (formally Union City Kids' Zone (UCKZ)
We are excited to share important news regarding the evolution of our organization.  We are delighted to announce that our organization formally known as Union City Kids' Zone will now be known as the Union City Family Center (UCFC). UCFC operates a dynamic Family Center, located on the campus of the Barnard-White Middle School.  UCFC Family Liaisons, assigned to specific school sites, expand access to UCFC and partner resources for the community. Liaisons provide case management and resource linkages for displaced/low wage families/youth who receive needed support with shelter, transportation, emergency food, clothing, job training/job search (Highway to Work & Cypress Mandela), financial coaching/taxes (SparkPoint), affordable childcare (Kidango) applying for benefits, and our safe parking lots program for displaced families ~ all co-located at the Union City Family Center. UCFC partners with community volunteers and over 35 community agencies!

NHSF Grant Application Period is Open
Every year, the New Haven Schools Foundation awards grants to teachers, advisors, program managers, and coaches. Grant applications may be submitted between March 1 and March 30, 2018. There are four grant programs open this year:  a) Innovations in Education – Classroom grants for teachers. B) Project: Enrichment – Funding for co-curricular or extra-curricular programs. C) STEM – Funding for innovative projects in science, technology, engineering, and math. D) Brian Kelly Tutoring Fund – Support for tutoring programs in the New Haven Unified School District.

You can’t win a grant if you don’t apply! Grants are submit to budget limitations, and may be used for supplies, equipment, books, software, fees and other similar items. Simply complete the online form for consideration. Use a computer, not a mobile device. We recommend using the Chrome browser for best results. You will receive an email notification confirming that your application was submitted successfully.

NHSF Earth Day Celebration Features Crossfit Challenge
This year’s Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 21, will offer a professionally-timed 5K run for adults and children. CrossFit One World is joining the event adding an exciting new element to the program. CrossFit will lead two twenty-five minute fitness programs – one for adults and one for youth. Crossfit incorporates elements of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and track and field training techniques into workouts.  We’ll have science-focused activities, as well. This is a family event promoting fitness, good health, and great community spirit. The 5K run starts at Cesar Chavez Middle School and runs along the Alameda Creek Trail. There will be vendor and community booths, music, and fun. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Watch for more details!

NHSF Scholarship Application Reviews Underway
Almost $120,000 in community-funded scholarships are on offer this year from the New Haven Schools Foundation. Graduating seniors have completed the application process, and the scholarship sponsors are now reviewing applicants. Thank you to all of the wonderful organizations, businesses, and individuals who donated scholarships for our students. Save the date! Our 2018 Pathways to Success Scholarship Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

NH PASE is proud to announce our annual scholarships for 2017-18.  These scholarships were established to support students of Filipino and Filipino-American descent, and their college endeavors.

ELA/ ELD Instructional Materials (Grades K-5) on Display / Seeking Input
The New Haven Unified School District is in the process of piloting English Language Arts (ELA) and English Language Development (ELD) Instructional Materials for the elementary school level.  Two sets of materials have been piloted in our classrooms over the course of this school year, Benchmark Advance and Wonders by McGraw Hill School Education. These materials are now on display at the Educational Services Center (ESC).

We are seeking input and feedback from teachers, parents and community members to assist in informing our selection of materials.  Teachers, parents and community members are asked to review these materials. Once individuals have completed their review of the instructional materials, they will be given an opportunity to provide feedback and input.

The materials will be on display at the ESC adjacent to the Technology Lab until March 20, 2018.

Call for Proposals - 2018 Personalization Summit

Calling all innovators! Are you future ready?  Is there a part of your practice that you can share with other educators? We are seeking people who are passionate about innovative ideas in education!!  If you are interested, please complete a CALL FOR PROPOSALS.

All New Haven teachers whose proposals are selected will receive hourly pay for planning time and for presenting.   

Proposals are due by Friday, March 9, 2018.

The New Haven Adult School will be offering an evenings only, instructor-led Microsoft Excel 2016 class beginning Thursday, March 29.  Click here for more information about the course.

  4. Our office will enroll you in FREE study lab for Feb 15 - Mar 22nd  AND in the $45.00 Intermediate Excel 2016 (starts March 29th). We will email your class information to you.
  5. Call or stop by our office to pay your class fee.
