District Offices and All Schools Closed Monday, February 19th For Presidents’ Day

All schools and the district office will be closed this Monday, February 19, in honor of Presidents’ Day.


New Haven Unified Elementary Extravaganza, Thursday, March 8th and 9th
The New Haven Unified School District is hosting the first ELEMENTARY EXTRAVAGANZA!!  This will be a performing arts event showcasing the choirs and musical groups from all seven of our elementary schools in a single performance (over 500 performing students!).

Please help us spread the word for this exciting evening and plan to join us!!

Date: Thursday, March 8th and Friday, March 9th - 7:00 pm
Location: Logan Pavilion 1800 H Street Union City 94587
Tickets: $10.00 + processing fee

All proceeds will support Elementary Music Programs in the district

Call for Proposals - 2018 Personalization Summit

Calling all innovators! Are you future ready?  Is there a part of your practice that you can share with other educators? We are seeking people who are passionate about innovative ideas in education!!  If you are interested, please complete a CALL FOR PROPOSALS.   

Below are the logistics for this year's Summit:

Place: James Logan High School
Dates: June 19 and 20, 2018
Time: 8:00a-3:00p

All New Haven teachers whose proposals are selected will receive hourly pay for planning time and for presenting.   

Proposals are due by Friday, March 9, 2018.

State Senator Recognizes Dr. Arlando Smith and Others at African American Heritage Leadership Awards

State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) recognized the work of New Haven Superintendent, Dr. Arlando Smith, and three other local awardees making important contributions to the 10th Senate District at his 7th Annual African American Heritage Leadership Awards program.


This year’s honorees are Dr. Arlando Smith; Dr. Emmet Carson, the chief executive officer and president of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation; Jean Morgan, community outreach director of Abode Services; and the Eden Rose Chapter of The Links, a mentorship organization designed to make a difference in the lives of adolescent girls in the community.


“These are outstanding individuals who are working hard every day to educate our youth, provide housing for the homeless and address social equity and economic security issues,” Wieckowski said. “The Links and each of the individuals have touched thousands of people’s lives in positive ways through their dedication to improving the quality of life in the Bay Area and beyond.”

Black College Expo College Recruitment Tour, Thursday, February 15

James Logan High School will have an exclusive opportunity to meet one-on-one with 25 college recruiters from historically black colleges (HBCUs).  There is potential for students to get accepted on the spot, application fees waived and possibly receive scholarships.  Students should make sure to have official transcripts and copies of test scores for onsite acceptance.


The Black College Expo College Recruitment HBCU Caravan Tour will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, in the Student Union.


Additionally, James Logan High School students and their families are invited to visit with over 50 universities by attending the Black College Expo on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Oakland Marriott Convention Center from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  FREE admissions with James Logan High School Photo I.D.


NOTE: Seniors should have a copy of at least 15 transcripts and ACT and/or SAT scores.  There are about 2 - 3 HBCUs that will accept 11th graders, so please sure sure you have at least 3 copies of your transcripts.  If you have taken the ACT and/or SAT, you should bring 3 copies too.


Logan Winter Sport Athletes Sport an Impressive 3.16 GPA

Logan athletes participating in winter sports, an incredible 256 of them (cheerleading, basketball, soccer, and wrestling) earned a 3.16 GPA overall.  EVERY one of the programs achieved a GPA of over a 3.00.  Please click here to see the breakdown by sport.


For the year, 627 Logan athletes have maintained a 3.19 GPA.


Logan Boys and Girls Soccer Teams Qualify for NCS, Will Host Games Wed. Night

The James Logan High School Boys and Girls Soccer Teams have qualified for the North Coast Section (NCS) finals.  Both teams will be hosting games on Wednesday, February 14.  

The Logan Girls team earned the #15 seed and will be playing #2 Foothill High School at 5:00pm.  The Logan Boys team earned the #8 seed and will be playing #9 Granada at 7:00pm.  

Come out and enjoy some good soccer and cheer our soccer athletes on!  

General Admission: $10, HS Students, Senior Citizens, and Children: $6.  Children under 4, free.


Lady Colts Wrestling Take 2nd in NCS!  Boys Wrestling Are League Champs!

Congratulations to the Girls wrestling team for taking 2nd as a team at NCS this past weekend. The Lady Colts qualified four wrestlers to state in Visalia led by NCS champions Lizette Rodriguez, Julie Tran, and Emily Sandoval.  Beyonce Garcia placed third and also qualified to state.  Other place winners for the Colts are Lea Albano-4th, Sahra Nawabi-5th, and Vienna Garcia-7th

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Wrestling team for winning their 13th consecutive MVAL Title by beating American High School 34-25!


James Logan Band Boosters To Host Crab Feed, Saturday, February 24

The James Logan Band Boosters will be hosting an All You Can Eat Crab Feed on Saturday, February 24th at the Mark Green Sports Center on Union City Blvd.   The meal includes pasta, salad, and garlic bread. Wine and beer will be available at the no host bar.  All proceeds will go to supporting the James Logan Band and Color Guard.

Tickets are $50 per adult, and $25 for children 6-12.  Kids 5 and under are free.  All tickets can be purchased on the Tickets page.  They can also be purchased by mailing a check (payable to James Logan Band Boosters and write number of tickets requested in the check Memo) to:

James Logan Athletics 4th Annual Crab Feed
4th Annual JLHS Athletics Crab Feed, March 24th, 2018 at the Mark Green Sports Center in Union City, tickets are now on sale.  Go to:  www.jameslogan.org/store/crabfeed to purchase your tickets online.  $45 a ticket.  Head coaches for all teams are selling tickets as well.


IVCMS Looking for Interested Fathers and Father-Figures for Classes

Itliong Vera-Cruz Middle School (IVCMS) will be hosting its third R3 Academy (Fathers & Father-Figures) classes starting March 1st.  We would like to extend the invitation to you and your NHUSD families.  There will be an informational night, at IVCMS on Wednesday, Feb. 7th at 6:00-700pm in our Media Center.  Here is a link to a story about the R3 Academy Classes that will also give you some information about the program.

JLHS/Kids Zone Princess Club & Glam Squad Is Looking For Help To Help

The JLHS/KidsZone Princess Club & GlamSquad helps disadvantaged students attend Prom in style. Please donate gently used gowns and accessories to replenish our closet. Any monetary donations will go towards the purchase of bids for our displaced and foster youth. Volunteer barbers will be needed on 5/3/18 and hairstylists and makeup artists are needed on 5/5/18.

Searles Elementary School to Pilot Spanish Two-Way Immersion Program
Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, Searles Elementary School will be piloting and implementing a Spanish Two-Way Dual Immersion Language Program.  Starting with kindergarten and adding a grade level each year after, students in the program will receive instruction in Spanish and English.  Two-Way Dual Language Immersion program fosters bilingualism, biliteracy, enhanced awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, and high levels of academic achievement through instruction in two languages.  This program is a wonderful way for Native Spanish speakers and Native English speakers to be proficient in two languages.

Parents of incoming kindergarten students who are interested in the program will be required to attend a Parent Information Meeting.  Please click here for more information.

NHAS Offering Instructor-led Intermediate Microsoft Excel 2016, March 29

The New Haven Adult School will be offering an evenings only, instructor-led Microsoft Excel 2016 class beginning Thursday, March 29.  Click here for more information about the course.

 

In order to make sure that students are ready for this intermediate-level course, interested individuals should review the Beginning Excel lessons 1-12.  Students should possess these skills BEFORE taking Intermediate Excel. Click here to see lessons 1-12.

  4. Our office will enroll you in FREE study lab for Feb 15 - Mar 22nd  AND in the $45.00 Intermediate Excel 2016 (starts March 29th). We will email your class information to you.

  5. Call or stop by our office to pay your class fee.
