Board Briefs for Tuesday, January 9, 2018
At Tuesday night’s meeting, Chief Business Officer Annette Heldman introduced the auditor from Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Co., LLP, Xiupin Guillaume. Ms. Guillaume stated that the New Haven USD report presents fairly in all financial aspects for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017. Additionally, the audit was clean and unmodified with no audit findings or material weakness identified with regards to District's business practices and internal controls, financial statements, Federal Awards and / or State Awards.
The Board also heard a presentation from Mission Valley Regional Occupation Program (MVROP) Superintendent Thomas Hanson and Director of Educational Services Dr. Cliff Adams-Hart. The two provided an update of programs offered through their Career Technical program for 2017-18 and the plan for future programs for 2018-19. Currently, MVROP offers 58 Career Technical Education (CTE) courses: 33 of which courses carry UC “a-g” accredited status. Nearly 800 New Haven students attend ROP classes on the Logan campus, the Conley-Caraballo campus, or the MVROP Center Campus. MVROP also offers dual enrollment which allows high school students to take and earn recognized college credit at the same time. To see the MVROP presentation, please click here.
Next, Chief Academic Officer, Lisa Metzinger, introduced Jessica Wilder, the principal of the New Haven Adult School, who gave a brief introduction of the many different classes and programs available to the community on the campus. Ms. Wilder then shared a video with the Board that highlighted the staff, students and community’s thoughts and experiences about the program. The video can be viewed here.
