Long-Time District Employee, Daniel Perry, Passes Away
Daniel Perry, retired Maintenance Person, who worked for our community for 26 years, passed away last week. Mr. Perry had been retired since August 2007.
There will be no services.
Luna Mexicana: Day of the Dead Celebration
The Division of Teaching and Learning and the Oakland Ballet Company are proud to present Luna Mexicana: Day of the Dead Celebration. This professional theatrical dance production celebrates Dias De Los Muertos (Day Of The Dead). It will be an exciting, lavish, vibrant evening of visual and performing art and entertainment.
This event will be held at the James Logan High School Center for the Performing Arts today, Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 6:00pm. General admission tickets are $15.00 + processing fees and can be purchased online here.
Advanced ticket purchases are highly recommended.

Logan High Homecoming is Friday, October 20
James Logan is hosting American High on Friday, October 20, for our annual Homecoming football game and festivities! Junior Varsity kicks off at 4:30 and Varsity kicks off at 7:00. Come support the team and see some old friends!

“Diamonds in Education” Gala Tickets on Sale Now
The New Haven Schools Foundation’s annual gala raises funds that support educational and extra-curricular programs in our schools. It will be held this Saturday, October 21 at the Paradise Palace / Mirage Ballroom, and features dinner and cocktails, casino games and prizes, DJ dancing, and auction items. This year, it will also recognize the NHUSD teacher and classified employee of the 2016-17 school year, Tina Bobadilla-Mastel and Susan Glenn. We will honor retired counselor Don del Pilar with the Guy Emanuele Community Service Award, and will present the City of Union City with the Tom Kitayama award for service by a business or organization. All of these honorees have given extraordinary effort to supporting education in our community. Tickets are available online, at www.nhsfoundation.org. Please join in to support this worthy cause!
Logan Link Crew To Host Fall Festival, November 30th from 5-7 pm.
The James Logan High School Link Crew will host a Fall Festival on Thursday, November 30, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. There will be food trucks and free festival games to play! The entire community is welcome.

NHSF to Benefit from Rotary Chili Pepper Challenge
Can you feel the heat? The New Haven Schools Foundation has been selected as a beneficiary of the Area 3 Rotary Hot Chili Pepper Challenge. Six Rotary Clubs in tri-cities have joined together in this annual fundraising appeal that raised over $40,000 for local charities last year. This year, Rotary will match your donations, so every dollar contributed will be matched by two dollars from Rotary until we reach $5000. Health Science Essentials at New Haven adult School
This class helps prepare adult students for college level health, life and biological science classes. This is a great class for those who want to pursue a career in the healthcare field.
The cost is $60, but is free for students aged 18 to 24.
Students interested should attend a placement assessment. The next placement assessments are on Oct 23 either 10:45 am - 1:45 pm or 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm. No fee for the placement assessment. The class starts Oct 24, 2017

Zumba with Mimi at Guy Emanuele!
Join Mimi and Judith at Guy Emanuele on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm for a super fun Zumba class! Classes are free this week. Future classes will be $5 and all proceeds go to the school. Please see the flier for more details. Zumba classes will continue at Cesar Chavez Middle School on Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 pm and Saturdays at 9 am.

Union City Kids' Zone - Please Consider Donating Non-Perishable Food Items!
Union City Kids' Zone Resource Center houses a Food & Clothing Pantry available to any student, family and community member. We accept nonperishable food items, basic household & toiletry goods, and gently used clothing. Click here for a list of “high-need” items.
Pantry hours are Mondays from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm and Thursdays from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm or by appointment (510) 476-2770. If you are interested in donating to the Union City Kids' Zone Food & Clothing Pantry - the following items are still in need: pasta sauce, noodles, dried or canned beans, tuna, crackers, cup-o-noodles, top ramen, macaroni and cheese (please visit our website to learn more about donatable items).
