Services for Logan Student Lost in Tragic Auto Accident

Funeral services for Logan senior Shane Marcelino will be held on Saturday, May 27 at 12:00 pm at St. Anne’s Church, 32223 Cabello St., Union City, CA 94587.  A reception will follow until 4:00 pm.  There will also be a viewing on Friday, May 26, at St. Anne’s Church from 3:00-9:00 pm.

Decoto School for Independent Study is Moving!!!
After 5 years at its current location that is shared with the New Haven Adult School, Decoto School for Independent Study is moving to the Barnard White campus on 725 Whipple Road, only a few minutes away, starting in the fall for the 2017-18 school year.  After much consideration and discussion with staff members, it was decided it would be in the best interest of the school and students for the move. The new location provides much needed space, with additional classrooms for student and staff use.

Annual Relay for Life to be Held Saturday, July 8

Challenged issued!  Which New Haven school can have the highest percentage participants in the 2017 Relay for Life?  The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life will take place this year on Saturday, July 8 at James Logan High School.  Relay is the very popular event which is part fundraiser, part party (multiple live performances and fun events throughout the day) and includes moving ceremonies to honor those that have survived cancer as well as honor those we have lost to this dreaded disease.  Go to this website and add your name to your school’s team!    More information on this event can be found in the linked flyer.    Any questions, contact Grace Chang at

Logan High School Men’s Track and Field Team Take First at NCS

The James Logan Men’s Track and Field Team won the North Coast Section Bay Shore this past weekend.  This was the 52nd time a James Logan Track and Field Team has won the North Coast Championship.  They have finished in second place an additional twelve more times.  Jered Espanola broke the meet record in the pole vault with a vault of 16'1"

Join ICL Graduation Celebration on Tuesday, May 30

The Institute of Community Leaders' Celebration of Graduates for the Class of 2017 will be held on Tuesday, May 30th at the James Logan High School Center for the Performing Arts at 7pm.  All are invited to help celebrate ICL's third class of graduates, and wish them well in their future endeavors!

Writer’s Workshop Institute
The Division of Teaching & Learning is proud to present a day long institute for Writer’s Workshop on August 8, 2017 from 8:00-3:00 at the ESC. The institute will offer participants a variety of topics to choose from including: Launching the Writer’s Workshop for new teachers or new to WW teachers, Conferring, Integrating Technology, Immersion & Mentor Text, Informational Writing, and Opinion/Argument Writing. The institute is open for teachers in grades TK-8th, participants may choose to be paid their hourly rate or receive .4 units of district credit. We hope to see you there!

After 65 combined years of teaching, the Forrests are retiring! Special Education Recognition Awards (SERA) Nominations Now Being Accepted
Do you know a staff member who really supported your special education student? Nominate them for a SERA award!

Who should be nominated for the SERA Award?  We believe nominees should be special individuals, who benefit the lives of our students with special needs.  Nominees should demonstrate a variety of the following qualities and characteristics:

  • Hold high expectations for all learners.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • Be tolerant, willing to listen, and consider and respect the viewpoints of others.
  • Be generous with his/her time and energy.
  • Respect others, including colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy in all situations.
  • Be sincere and gracious in challenging situations when working with students with special needs and their families.
  • Demonstrate exceptional contributions to the lives of students with special needs, including friendship, support and caring.
  • Demonstrate random acts of kindness that impacts students with special needs.
  • Be patient and, relentlessly encouraging.

Logan’s Prince/Princess Project Needs Your Help!

The Logan Prince/Princess Project will be loaning caps and gowns to graduating seniors who need them. They are in dire need of donations of red caps and gowns.  Anyone who has a red (or black) cap and gown to donate can bring it to Logan, attention Erin Dal Porto (room 42). Also, if you have borrowed a cap and gown in the past, we kindly ask you to return it to Erin Dal Porto as soon as possible.

Applications Now Being Accepted for Peer Language Model Program
New Haven Unified School District accepts a few typically developing peers to serve as language models in each of our preschool classrooms.  General education peers are placed according to availability. The Peer Language Model component is an important part of our program.  Children learn not only from adults, but from watching and interacting with other children.  New Haven is now accepting applications for Fall 2017.
