Follow-up Meeting to Address Racial Tensions in the District/City Scheduled for This Evening, January 31

This past October, a meeting was held at the New Haven Unified School District office to discuss tensions in the community that adversely impact and disrupt the educational process. A result of that meeting was a commitment for a series of follow-up meetings to be held jointly with Community Members, Teachers, City Leaders, District Leaders, and Students.

Since much of the activity centers around historical conflicts throughout the City, the State, and the Country, City Manager Tony Acosta, Police Chief Daryl McAlister, Co-Superintendent Arlando Smith and Co- Superintendent Akur Varadarajan are inviting participants to now begin working together in a series of problem-solving sessions. The first of these collaborative meetings will take place, Tuesday, January 31, 2017. The meeting will be held at the New Haven District Office, and will begin at 5:00 p.m.

IVCMS and AES Receive Makeovers in Honor of Martin Luther King Holiday

On the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School and Alvarado Elementary School were lucky enough to partner with Hands on Bay Area and Kaiser for a day of service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.  Over 85 Kaiser employees came to give both schools a make over.  IVCMS had a new mural created for them in front of their Multi-Purpose Room.  In addition, all the patio table umbrellas were colorfully decorated to brighten up the students' lunch area.  Also, one classroom received a make over and now includes whiteboard desktops, flexible furniture in the room and improved lighting.  The site is beyond thankful for the hard work of the Kaiser employees and our students love the new additions to our school.  For a link to pictures of the event, please click here.
