Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School College Fair Coming Soon
The eighth grade Project Based Learning students at Itliong-Vera Cruz Middles School (IVCMS) are hosting their annual College Fair on Tuesday, October 1, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the gym. Parents, friends, and community members are all welcome to come and learn about a variety of colleges through student-created presentations and displays.

District Punjabi Parent Advisory Group Inaugural Meeting, Wednesday, October 2
The first meeting of the District’s Punjabi Parent Advisory Group will be held on Wednesday, October 2, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at the District Office, located at 34200 Alvarado-Niles Road. For more information about this meeting, please click here.
Logan Girls Volleyball Team Scores Big in Durango Classic Tournament
The James Logan High School girls volleyball team had a huge win on Friday against the overall number one seed and number two team in the country, Redondo Union High School at the Durango Classic in Las Vegas. The Lady Colts won their pool and played in the championship bracket on Sunday. This tournament is considered to be the toughest volleyball tournament in the country. Check out the recap here.
Searles Elementary School Parent Book Club
Parents and families are invited to attend the Searles Elementary School Book Club beginning Tuesday, October 1, in English, and Friday, October 4, in Spanish. These meetings will be held in the Parent Center. Please click here for more information.
New Haven Unified School District Partners with Dr. Kate Kinsella
The New Haven Unified School District is proud to announce our new partnership with Dr. Kate Kinsella. She provides consultancy to state departments of education throughout the U.S., school districts, and publishers on evidence-based instructional principles and practices to accelerate academic English acquisition for K–12 language minority youths. Her numerous publications and instructional programs focus on career and college readiness for academic English learners, with an emphasis on academic interaction, high-utility vocabulary development, informational text reading, and scholarly writing across subject areas. Hui Stevens, Director of K-12 Instruction and Mikey McKelvey, Coordinator of English Language Services will be working closely with Dr. Kinsella in order to engage with members of the New Haven staff in professional development and instructional support throughout the school year. Welcome, Dr. Kinsella!!
New Haven Provides Access To PSAT, SAT and AP Exams For Students
In alignment with the district goals focused upon College, Career and Life Readiness and Equity and Access, the New Haven Unified School District will provide access for our high school students to PSAT, SAT and AP Exams in the 2019-2020 school year. This investment by the district continues to demonstrate our commitment to remove obstacles, enable students with a variety of choices and opportunity and ensure equity.
“By Trustee Area” Election Update and New Trustee Area Maps
The District has begun the process of transitioning from “at-large” Trustee elections to "by Trustee area" election where the District is divided into five areas that will ultimately be represented by one Trustee per area. Conceptual maps have been drafted for this transition and are available for review. The District African American Advisory Presents Two College Readiness Workshops
African American freshman, sophomores, juniors, and their parents are invited to attend a College Readiness Workshop designed with you in mind. Come learn about high school graduation and college entrance requirements, essay writing, key milestones, placement testing and more! Join us in the James Logan Library – Thursday, September 26, at 6:30 pm.
African American seniors and their parents are invited to attend a specially designed workshop to help prepare for the college application process. Come learn about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), effective essay writing, key dates, specialty programs and more! Join us at the James Logan Little Theater – Thursday, October 17, at 6:30 pm.

- Grand Opening of the 'Little Hands: Learn n' Play Room' on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at the UCFC. Thank you to First 5 Alameda County's NRFS grant and Fremont Bank in helping us to create a special space where children ages 0-5 can play, learn, and begin to get ready for kindergarten. Dads, Moms, Grandparents, and Caretakers will be able to participate in storytime, art and outdoor activities with their little ones. - Family Game Night is a free and fun opportunity for families in need of a place to go with their kids on a Friday evening beginning on Friday, October 11 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at the UCFC. - Story Time at SEA or HVC for children ages 0-5 that are currently being hosted at Searles and Hillview Crest Elementary Schools. These storytime programs consist of stories, songs, rhymes, and movement activities. Come join the fun of reading and learning with your little ones! Storytime starts at 8:15 am every Wednesday. 10th Anniversary Mutt Strut October 5, 2019
Attention dog lovers! The New Haven Schools Foundation is once again presenting its super-popular “Mutt Strut” event on Saturday, October 5. This is a great opportunity to bring the family to walk or run with your dog on the beautiful grounds of the Masonic Home in the Union City hills. There will be games, costume contests, and other pet-related vendors. New this year is the Tickle Me Petting Zoo.
