CCMS Girls Wrestling Team Takes Second Place at State
Congratulations to the Cesar Chavez Middle School Girls Wrestling Team for taking second place in the State! All wrestlers did a tremendous job and had a great finish to the season. Sisilia Tuafa took sixth place, Liselle Santos took fifth place, Isabelle Camarillo took sixth place, Mari Zamora-Lajes took fourth place, Mikayla Garcia took second and Carmella Foley is a STATE CHAMPION!
Congratulations to Coach Flores, his coaching staff, and wrestlers on a great season.
IVCMS Students Win “Outstanding Overall” Award at Tech Challenge
Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School seventh grade students Fatima Khawaja, Angeline Ho, Nyela and Brianna Johnson’s Team ArcTech Fox was the only team to win the “Outstanding Overall” award at The Tech Challenge on March 31, 2019. The team made a hovercraft which covered all five tracks of the Challenge in less than half the given time. They were awarded best on all three categories of the Challenge! Go Cougars!

Pilipinx Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, June 1st
New Haven PASE ( Pilipino American Society for Education) and Filipino Youth Association (FYA) are hosting our first annual Pilipinx Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, June 1st at 9:00 am at Itliong Vera-Cruz Middle School. This ceremony does not replace the traditional Logan High Ceremony, it is in addition to. We will also acknowledge PASE Scholarship recipients and will end with a light refreshments. All students who identify as Filipino are invited.
An interest survey was sent out to all Logan, Conley-Caraballo, and Decoto Independent Studies students of Filipino descent last week. If your student is interested in joining this celebration, please fill out this interest survey.
Kitayama Elementary School is Looking for STEAM Speakers
Kitayama Elementary School is looking for speakers who have a job or hobby related to science, technology, engineering, art, or mathematics (STEAM) to present to students on STEAM Day, May 17. Interested individuals should contact Assistant Principal, Mary Small at firstname.lastname@example.org or complete this form online. CCMS Retirees 2019 - Save the Date
Cesar Chavez Middle School will be honoring their 2019 retirees: Teri Gruenwald, Joni Gilbertson, and Ester Claudio. Please help us celebrate on Friday, May 31, at El Torito in San Leandro. New Haven Schools Foundation Earth Day Celebration and Fun Run, Saturday, April 20
Come join the fun for the 2019 New Haven Schools Foundation Earth Day Celebration and Fun Run, Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Cesar Chavez Middle School. New this year is an Earth Day Poster Contest for New Haven Students in grades K-8. Winning poster contest entries will be announced at the event and later in the Spring put on display at the Mark Green Sports Center. In addition to Earth Day activities and celebration, NHSF will hold the annual 5K (run & walk), 10K (run) and kid races (400m, 800m &1600m). Details can be found at nhsfoundation.org. Race registration is here. Race registration form, which includes a $5 discount per pair of participants is available here.
NHSF is a non-profit raising money for scholarships for New Haven students and grants for New Haven teachers and staff. In 2018, With the support of the community and local businesses, NHSF awarded over $130,000 in scholarships and over $40,000 in teacher grants.
Union City Family Center (formerly Kids' Zone)
The Union City Family Center (UCFC) operates a dynamic Family Center, located on the campus of the Barnard-White Middle School. UCFC Family Liaisons, assigned to specific school sites, expand access to UCFC and partner resources for the community. Liaisons provide case management and resource linkages for displaced/low wage families/youth who receive needed support with shelter, transportation, emergency food, clothing, job training/job search (Highway to Work & Cypress Mandela), financial coaching/taxes (SparkPoint), affordable childcare (Kidango) applying for benefits, and our safe parking lots program for displaced families ~ all co-located at the Union City Family Center. UCFC partners with community volunteers and over 35 community agencies!
The Union City Family Center is now an Alameda County Food distribution site! Food will be distributed every Tuesday that school is in session from 3:00 pm - 5:00 p.m. UCFC is located at 725 Whipple Road, Union City, CA (on the Barnard-White Middle School campus). Volunteers are welcome!
