Conley-Caraballo High School Named California Model Continuation School

Last Wednesday Principal Camacho interrupted class at the end of the day with news that Conley-Caraballo had been named a Model Continuation High School by the California Department of Education!

Conley-Caraballo High School features a strong academic program, rich library, rigorous PE program, ROP culinary and business courses, independent study and credit recovery, a Kidzone liaison, professional counseling, several mentor-supported groups, and boasts a staff and administration almost exclusively from the community.  Proud Conley-Caraballo students state that the small campus and class sizes enable teachers to better assist them as well as allow for strong bonds to develop.  Some students have even joked, “You can run, but you cannot hide!” Conley-Caraballo High School graduates are proud of their accomplishments.

If your child is credit deficient or reluctant to attend our district’s amazing comprehensive school, consider speaking with your child’s counselor about whether Conley-Caraballo High School would be a good fit.  The school’s storied twelve-year history is a testament to the staff’s commitment and the students’ determination.  No longer the “other high school”, Conley-Caraballo High has made a name for itself as a shining star in its own right.

Needs Assessment To Be Conducted Regarding Social-Emotional and Behavioral Health Supports

With support from The Alameda County Center for Healthy Schools and Communities (CHSC), the New Haven Unified School District (NHUSD) will be conducting a needs assessment to gather data on the district’s delivery of social-emotional and behavioral health supports for students.  The overall goal of this assessment is to identify and prioritize the assets and unmet social emotional and behavioral health needs and supports of students at specific sites and district-wide, and to use the results of this assessment to develop and implement recommendations for improving the health and educational opportunities for NHUSD students.

As a part of the NHUSD community, your input is critical to ensuring that the assessment leads to the design and implementation of effective strategies that are tailored to the needs of our students and schools.  Therefore, we will be gathering input from a wide range of students, parents, school staff, behavioral health providers, principals, partnering agencies and other key stakeholders and using this information to develop improvement strategies.  As our data collection gets underway, we will keep you updated about opportunities to provide input through surveys, focus groups, in-person interviews or more informal methods. We will also present the assessment results to the community at the conclusion of the data collection process and provide opportunities for input around next steps.

Our hope is that through the process of conducting this comprehensive needs assessment and by developing recommendations with community input, we can implement strategies that reflect the wide range of perspectives of our community and ensures all students have access to the behavioral health supports they need as well as a safe and supportive place to learn.

If you have suggestions or input around the needs assessment process, please contact John Mattos, Director of Pupil Services at jmattos@nhusd.k12.ca.us.

The New Haven Unified School District is seeking the community's input in its search for a Superintendent
In August of 2013, the New Haven Unified School District Board of Education adopted a "Co-Superintendency" model to lead the District.  Chief Academic Officer, Arlando Smith, and Chief Business Officer, Akur Varadarajan, were chosen to take on these roles in addition to serving in their existing capacities.

At the Board's October 18, 2016 meeting, they announced that the Co-Superintendency model had served its purpose and that the Board would begin a Superintendent search with the intent that the search be concluded by the end of the 2016-17 school year.  In order to facilitate that search, the District has secured the services of McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., an executive search firm.

If you are interested in providing input to the search firm, please click the appropriate link below to answer a brief, five-question survey.

The New Haven Unified School District would like to thank the staff and community members who came to the Superintendent Search Forums to provide their input last week.  The perspective of these groups is critical in helping the search firm to identify the best candidate.
